I read an excellent fanfic recently, will try and find a link for it. It is Deathly Hallows compliant (which must be a lot more work than AU) but it details DH from Hermione's perspective and was really good.

I found the epilogue for Deathly Hallows really really dissatisfying, I know lots of people were happy that it was all happily ever after and all the couples stayed together but the ending just seemed so twee, like she finished it too quickly. Unlike your pre-teen snot at the Leaky Lounge, you have to have that open mind to enjoy fanfic and be willing to see the characters taken in different directions than what the original author thought of.

I am a bit of a Ron basher too though and like it when he has his arse kicked haha he isn't good enough for Hermione

Will try and find that one I was telling you about, I forget the name of it. That link I posted to Petulant Poetess (STUPID name) has some really good fanfic and it isn't bound by the graphic content restrictions like fanfic.net is.

I've just got child #3 down for a nap and #2 having a rest on the lounge, so i'm going to have a cruise through the other fanfic there.

I'd love to read the DH one if you can find it, some people put a hell of a lot of work into them.

I agree about the epilogue, it felt like a cheesy copout. I'm a bit of a Ron basher too, I've gotten into tons of online arguments about it LOL. I don't think he bounced back enough by the end to deserve her either. I reckon 19 years later she probably would've killed him out of frustration lol.

It's called 'Second Life' by Lariope and it is one of the most convincing fanfics I have read, she really keeps the characters in check and it is quite believable that all of this happened right under the Boy Who Lived's nose lol

Wasn't the epilogue written as JKR was writing the first one? I swear I heard that somewhere. It reads like it was - you know how the writing changes as the books go on, the epilogue seems to go backwards in writing style.

I hadn't heard that Megan, but DH said it was true, and apparently originally the last word was supposed to be 'scar'.

I saw in interview that she said originally she had a lot more information in the epilogue, but felt it was compartmentalising the characters or something and wanted to give more of a feeling of 'looking down the platform through mist'.

Of course, as I said before she kind of fucked that up by then telling everyone what she thought happened anyway LOL.

HG I've only read the first 4 chapters of it but see what you mean about them staying in character, even with such an alternative plot! Quite enjoying the read.

I heard that as well, it just seemed to end such a great story so cheaply, but that is my opinion of course! It just seemed a bit unrealistic that their relationships remained intact after all that time, especially when considering the complete insuitability of Hermione and Ron!

I am hoping it is true that JK is writing 'Hogwarts - A History' and that book will tie up all the loose ends and answer questions still left hanging from the series. I am still bitterly disappointed that she let Snape die, such a disappointing end for the most enigmatic and intriguing character out of them all. Fortunately he lives on in Fanfic lol

I am glad to hear you are enjoying Second Life Cara, I thought it was very compelling and true to form. I read it again today myself and really enjoyed it. Love Snapey and wish the author would do a sequel, very sad of me indeed!

OMFG. Even though they weren't in character much (except Snape) I don't think I'll be able to see Hermione or Snape or Remus or Sirius in the same light again.

It's hard, even with out of character stuff, to not have it in the back of your mind while reading or watching something else, isn't it!

Something came to mind today (seriously, I can't stop thinking about it) Tonks married Remus (didn't she?).
So lets just fit that bit of fan fic into the real story, then she married him after she screwed his mates, in front of him. Or perhaps she was already married to him when she did it.

Ahh, but! Hermiones "de-flowering" was supposed to be after Voldemort was killed, sooooo, Remus porked Hermione when he was married to Tonks.
But then Sirius was dead by then, wasn't he?

All three of them were dead by then, if you care to fit that smut into the storyline.

So, gathering that bit of *whatever* suspended the storyline to that point, it's also fair to assume stuff like Lupin and tonks marrying also didn't happen, and/or Tonks, being fully aware of what they were like, had no issue with it.

How old is Chloe? Rach started reading them last year when she turned 7. She's up to Goblet of Fire now.

I'm vacillating over what to do when she finishes that one. They start getting pretty dark from there on in (well, from the end of that one really) and while she's seen the movies, I'm wondering if I should get her to hold off on OOTP for a bit. Although, over Christmas she also read the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and that's pretty bloody dark also.

The first book was aimed at 10ish year olds, and according to Rowling each book gets a little older so second for 11 year olds etc. I think at 7 Rach was younger than I wanted for her to start reading them, but she had exhaused Roald Dahl, Enid Blyton, Milly Molly Mandy, and the young Sweet Valley series and wanted to move onto something else. I also bought her some of those old 'choose your own adventure' books on ebay, thinking that you can read them repeatedly, but she didn't really like them (I think most of them are a bit sci-fi).

I'm really struggling with finding her appropriate reading because she's really too young for a lot of books but her reading level is way beyond her age so she just gets bored with younger kids books. I figured at least she knows HP, and she has never been freaked out by the scariness of it (she took some of the movies to my parents house over the holdidays, and when my mum told her it was too scary and to turn it off, she said, 'settle down Grandma, it's just a story!' )

And yes, don't over analyse the pervy fan fic I'll hunt down some in-character, non pervy stuff I've read which is quite good!

I like a lot of the Alternate Universe stories, most of the characters I really like get killed off in Rowlings books so it's good to see them having a little fun

This one is quite good, 'Denial' by littlebeloved, it is AU and of course features Snape my HP hottie of choice. Has scorching sex scenes but a good twisty storyline too and the character of Uncle Lance cracked me up

I showed S the card game one and the other snape/hermoine one last night, and he sat her pissing himself at them.

He also apparently found one that featured Ginny practicing her oral techniques on RON
